I thought for so long that it was some kind of hoax...probably because i didn't want to believe that day would come so soon. As with countless other people, Michael Jackson was and still is a major influence in my music. The day I sat in front of the TV as a kid and watched him sing and moonwalk across the stage at the '84 Grammy's, I knew music was what I wanted to do. I saw people smiling, cheering, singing, dancing and just feeling good. Deep down, I had an urge to do that for people as well. Being of color, he also gave me hope that I could achieve my dreams. It was such a wonderful flight because we were able to spend some time and get to know everyone. There were performers from all over the world. Michael Jackson suffered a massive heart attack in his rented home in Los Angeles, and died as a result of cardiac arrest. He was 50 years old. His talent, undeniable. His music, timeless. His legacy, unforgettable. Michael Jackson embodied music and is the highest selling musician of all time. His album Thriller sold over 100 million copies worldwide, 25 million in the United States alone. That's nearly 1/10 of the US population, and is still the highest selling album of all time. His music legacy however was marred by his personal life. For myself though, his music overshadowed any personal problems, he was always an idol of mine. I've created a tribute video to remember the man on stage, to remember his music and to celebrate an amazing 45 year career in the spotlight that began at age 5 with the Jackson 5. Michael Jackson's death has come as a complete surprise to everyone around the world. It's too hard to believe for some.
